Giving Back: the Power of Your Testimony

You didn’t suddenly wake up a great writer, did you? Most likely, you had to put in hours of reading and writing practice, suffer through rounds of scathing critiques, and submit to the dreaded editor’s pen over and over until you felt confident in your ability.

The point is, you likely didn’t get there alone.

We need each other

NIV 1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

One of the things that has been becoming clearer to me over time is the importance of passing on our knowledge and experience to others. The concept of mentorship comes to mind, though I don’t necessarily mean that everyone has to enter into a strict one-on-one teaching and coaching relationship. I do believe that, as the Body of Christ, each of us has the responsibility to be aware of and sensitive to the needs of our colleagues.

Our experiences need to be shared

When we step out to serve God, we encounter troubles. But by His grace we overcome them, not for our own glory but for His and to be an example and encouragement to others.

NIV 2 Corinthians 1:4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

What you have gone through in the past, someone else is experiencing right now. Frustration, discouragement, rejection, financial losses, problems with family members, feeling misunderstood, or just feeling utterly overwhelmed or lost are struggles we can all identify with. However, the good thing is that those who’ve passed through them can teach, exhort, and guide those who are drowning until they find their footing. Then they can do the very same thing for those around them.

That is the Body at work.

God is everywhere. He is working in all things to bring His kingdom to the earth and He wants to use each of us in a unique way to do it. Perhaps it’s sending an encouraging message to an author who’s struggling with confidence, or simply motivating someone by posting their story or testimony on your blog. Or, maybe you have to get personal and actually go for coffee with someone who’s confused about their path or calling.

Not sure if you have anything worthwhile to share? Take a chance. When we step out in faith and trust God, He will bring the results. And, most likely you’ll discover how powerful your testimony really is in His hands.

Challenge : Ask God how can you support someone today.

Blessings !

  1. Thank you for your post. You have encouraged me to share my testimony and how great God is when we surrender our lives to Him. I would like to share a very short version of my testimony. Please click on the link below.
